Movie Synopsis:
Raising Arizona is a Coen brothers cult classic, oozing with quirky humour, an array of equally quirky characters and peppered with uniquely written and delivered hilarious lines.
H.I Mcdonnough, a repeat offender with a penchant for holding up convenience stores with bulletless shotguns, is constantly bouncing in and out of jail. Falling for recently jilted policewoman Edwina, who always takes his mugshot, he somehow manages to catch her interest and propose. As H.I sets on the path of crime free ex con, the two of them are wed, living in a trailer in desert Arizona trying desperately for a baby. When they discover they cannot conceive, they hatch a plan to steal one of the ‘Arizona quints’, figuring ‘they’ve got more than they can handle’ as mentioned jokingly by the parents themselves on a tv interview. H.I steals the baby who the couple believe to be Nathan Arizona Junior and as he and Edwina try to proceed in life with their new ‘family unit’, all kinds of challenges, temptations, and situations are put in H.I’s path; including the release of his former jail bird pals and their appearance at his trailer one night and having their own plans for Nathan Junior, a disastrous run in with his boss and the allure of a convenience store. The story is interwoven with symbolism, the almost dreamscape sequences of a monster biker bounty hunter, self appointed to track down and rescue Nathan Arizona Senior’s son, leading to a somewhat inevitable dramatic showdown and ending within one of H.I’s dreams of the future.
